STEWARDSHIP OPPORTUNITY

In the back of the Church during the season of Lent there are brown paper bags with a list attached to each bag of items that are commonly needed by the food pantry at St. Mary's Church.  We ask each family to consider taking a bag or two during Lent and returning them to the Church filled with some of the requested items.  There are also small bags available for those who may wish to donate one or two items.  Every item donated goes to help someone in need.  This is a great stewardship opportunity for Lent. Thank you for your support.

OPERATION RICE BOWL

You are invited to participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl.  Throughout Lent we will pray, fast. learn and give as a way to reach out in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.  There will be rice bowls available in the back of the Church. Please plan to return them prior to or on Holy Thursday.  Thank you!     Social, Justice, & Peace Commission

Have you ever thought of being an email advocate?

Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that we have a responsibility to care for our brothers and sisters, both here and abroad. Therefore, it is our responsibility as Catholics to remind our legislators not to abandon the poor. Ruth Oakley with Catholic Relief Services would like to add you to her email advocacy list by sending you information for three reasons:

1. To inform you of situations that need our attention.

2. So that you can pray and pass on this information to others for their prayers as well.

3. When needed, we can all remind our legislators that we want them to support bills in congress that would help CRS with relief and development programs.

CRS is a good steward of donations with 94% of all monies collected (example: Haiti relief), being used for direct support of all programs.

If interested in being an email advocate or for more information, please sign up at the display in the back of the church, contact Lynette at 532-6713 or email Ruth at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

  3.                       3. Rights and Responsibilities
  4.                       4. Option for and with the Poor and Vulnerable
  5.                       5. Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
  6.                       6. Solidarity
  7.                       7. Care for God's Creation

Purpose: To strive to eliminate human suffering and work to eliminate the causes of social problems.

Responsibilities:

  1. 1.       Provide assistance to those who are poor, elderly, shut-in, lonely and/or bereaved.
  2. 2.      Educate parishioners on local, state, national and world social justice issues
  3. 3.      Foster social legislation by researching issues and disseminating information on proposed legislation

 Do you have a hour or two to spare each week? What about once or twice a month? There are many people of our parish who are unable to attend church but who would perhaps like to have someone from the church visit them once or twice a month. If this is a ministry you would be interested in, please contact the Social Justice and Peace Commission for more information. Call Lynette at 532-6713. If there is no answer, leave a message.

The Peace Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
